About the Alignment Economy
A 501(c)(3) nonprofit building a new way to measure and transfer value.
Matthew McCormick (the founder) is a strategy consultant, entrepreneur, and economic systems thinker whose 25-year career has been a single thread pulling him toward the Alignment Economy.
McCormick started his first business (lawn care) at 12 after watching the (mostly red) arrows on the stock market ticker in 2001 and asking how stocks and money worked. By high school he was managing rental properties. In college, he earned his BS in Entrepreneurship from Miami University, where his capstone project became a real company: Time Training Service (第一站), a startup focused on bridging cultural gaps for international students. He moved to Guangzhou, China to build it and spent five years on the ground running the business.
It was during those years in China that McCormick first encountered Bitcoin (2013). He recognized both its breakthrough (a ledger no government could manipulate) and its fatal flaws (first-mover advantage and deflation). He didn't buy and hold, so he didn't get rich like others from that era. But the miss drove something more valuable: a decade-plus-long obsession with finding a monetary system that actually works.
McCormick returned to the US, earned his MBA from UMass Amherst (focused on data analytics and machine learning), and led revenue growth for two education-focused startups in Boston. He watched the 2017 crypto boom play out and evaluated projects that claimed to be the future of money (Ethereum, Tether, Terra/Luna, and others). He moved into strategy consulting full-time and earned his PMP, spending the past six years supporting clients ranging from religious orders and higher education institutions to global manufacturers and top-five technology companies.
On nights and weekends, when not spending time with his wife and kids, he has been building the Alignment Economy: a ground-up redesign of how we measure and reward contribution, built on an open-source blockchain and structured as a 501(c)(3) modeled after the Linux Foundation.
McCormick sees this as the defining problem of our time. The way we measure value was built for a world that no longer exists. The Alignment Economy is built on the premise: if the scoreboard is right, everything downstream gets better. In the system, purchasing power is stable because math protects it, not politicians. A mother raising three kids earns from the economy for the first time in history. A chair built to last 20 years earns more than one designed to break in three. And with the right measuring stick, AI and robotics don't displace humanity. They free it.
